Daisy Chain – multi 005

“This design is inspired by the geometric pattern on a piece of transfer ware pottery found in a garden in Thorney Island.”

Crafted through an intricate nine-step process, each pendant elevates your style and allows you to wear a piece of unique art wherever you go.

Mud Pipit Designs are delicately hand-etched into the surface of the porcelain clay and kiln-fired with stunning glazes.

These exquisite pieces are lightweight, tactile and warm against the skin. Each creation is inspired by the discovery of ancient pottery fragments during gardening and beach-combing adventures.

Katie’s unique inspiration and meticulous craftsmanship blend to create this one-of-a-kind hand-made jewellery, offering a glimpse into times past through Katie’s unique blend of nature and nostalgia.

Behind the Scenes: Crafting Your Unique Pendant

A variety of tools are used to etch the design into the porcelain clay surface.

I carve the edges of the shape of the pendant.

I add the logo stamp and bale on the back.

The pendant is then burnished smooth with an agate tool.

Once dry they are ready for their first firing in kiln at 1000*c.

I decorate the design with a variety of glazes using a fine nozzle and brush.

Coloured glaze is wiped back from the white areas with a sponge.

Underglaze is added to the logo and wiped back.

Next the pendants are coated with 2 layers of clear glaze (appears coloured when applied,) ready for a second firing in the kiln at 1220*c.

Some pieces have a further step, where hints of mother of pearl lustre are applied, ready for a third firing in the kiln at 700*c.

The inspiration for my current designs comes from the fragments of blue and white pottery I have found while gardening and beach-combing over the years.

The edges of the ‘sea pottery’ treasures are tumbled smooth from the waves and I have attempted to recreate this look in my pendants.

I hope you enjoy wearing my pieces as much as I have enjoyed discovering, envisioning and creating them.  Katie. xx
